Hey GCU fans! Just was wondering if any other Lopes out there have any thoughts on the WAC and what you would do to change it or add to it? Or do you like it the way it is? What schools would you like to see in the WAC with us? Do you want to go to another conference? Lets get to talking Lopes!

I am happy to be in a D1 conference. That being said the WAC is well pretty wack right now. The great thing about the WAC is that it is winnable and it has an automatic bid. I think we fit better in the WCC with other faith based schools. No one will look at us to join until we are out of probation.

I can't wait to be done with probation! I agree that we should be in the WCC but I would be good with either Big West or Big Sky to a lesser extent. I wonder how plausible it would be for GCU to get an invite to the WCC?

For being in our 2nd year in Division 1 we have to be happy with where we're at. We can't really complain about not being in a big enough conference. We haven't done anything. We may be a little ways off, but I do think a WCC or Big Sky invitation is somewhere down the road. If the program does grow as quickly as we think it will, I believe we'll move to the WCC within the next 7 or 8 years. Moving there is very pausible. I think they would like to expand their conference into Arizona where they do not have teams, currently.

Happy to be here, but the WAC is on life support and at any moment they could be gone. If NMSU gets invited to another conference then what? That's what makes me nervous about being in the WAC. Honestly I like being in the WAC because I think when the Lopes are eligible in a couple years it is very winnable. The WCC is a tough conference some really good teams and perennial power house Gonzaga...

The WAC is pretty bad in all sports exept for maybe baseball. I do agree its good for us because it is an easy bid for the tournament. We need to dominate the WAC before thinking about about joining the WCC. We finished third two times in a row. I know its only our second year, but our athletic funds are 2x bigger than the other schools in our conference except for maybe New Mexico State. In 4 years we may be able to compete with those teams. We should win at least couple conference championships before moving on

First off I love the updated look of the board! Austin what’s crazy is that our athletic funds are probably on par with NMSU but we don't have to dump money into a football program which is a blessing I think. WCC is where I hope we land for the long term. I know we can't jump from the WAC until we are off probation but like LopesUp said what’s next if NMSU leaves? I would love for GCU to stick around to win a couple WAC tourney's and regular season championships but I hope that we jump as a opportunity if one presents itself and we go and win that conferences regular and tourney championships.

I want to stay in the WAC because we can win and well no one wants us right now. We kill conference RPI's because we are on probation. The WCC is much more marketable, but it will take some time. If we want to be top 25 then playing teams like Gonzaga, BYU, St. Mary's and even Santa Clara (down right now) twice a season will be great for GCU. I just feat that the WAC will implode if we lose another team. There have been rumors that UMKC wants to go back to the summit because of the travel. NMSU could leave at any moment if bigger conference like the MWC comes a calling. Then what!

I'm not ready to go so far as to say the WAC is whack. At least until we can finish better than 3rd place. Appreciative of the opportunity they gave us, and hope we honor that. I was actually really uncomfortable hearing Coach talk about interest from other conferences when he was on with Brad Cesmat last week. The conference folding is one thing, but just searching for greener pastures feels wrong at this point.
Now to totally contradict myself, I'm with Dad in thinking I might be more open to a transition 7-8 years down the road. Let's establish this program in a winnable conference and then maybe exploring other opportunities. WCC makes sense, but also like the lineup of schools in the Mountain West. Either would be a respectable step up in competition, and another rung on the ladder to becoming a Top 25 program.

I think its exciting and good to hear Coach and everyone in athletics be transparent with their desires and goals, its really refreshing. I think we all want/expect us to be apart of either WCC or MWC at some point in the future. I think before we jump to another conference I hope we have some bigs who can hoop I mean blocking shots and own the key on both sides of the game. I want other teams to be afraid to go inside.
